How the countdown works
Choose a date and a time, optionally add a title, and press Start Countdown. The countdown is anchored to that exact moment rather than to a running total, so switching tabs, locking your screen or refreshing the page never costs it a second. If the moment passes while the tab is in the background, you will find it complete when you come back.
Countdowns are per tab, so you can have two open counting to two different things. Closing the tab ends the countdown - like the rest of this site, it is a page rather than a background service, and it cannot notify you once it is closed.
Dates and time zones
The date and time you pick are read in your own device time zone, and nothing is geolocated. A date already in the past is refused rather than quietly moved to tomorrow - a countdown names a specific moment, so guessing a different one would be worse than saying no.
On the night the clocks go forward some local times simply do not exist. Those are refused too, with an explanation, rather than being silently shifted an hour.
